Meet Katie
Katie Chambers is a professional editor, author, and founder of Beacon Point Services, where she has edited nearly 300 books since 2016. With a background as an English teacher, she brings both technical expertise and a teacher’s instinct for clarity to her work—helping authors strengthen their writing while delivering polished, publishable manuscripts.
She specializes in nonfiction (business books, self-help, religious guidebooks, and memoirs) and fiction (fantasy, dystopian, thriller, mystery, and children’s books), offering substantive/developmental editing, copyediting, and manuscript consultation services. As an editing agency owner and educator, Katie also mentors freelance editors, helping them streamline their businesses, manage clients with confidence, and build systems that support sustainable, fulfilling work—an expertise that has earned her the nickname “the admin queen” among editors she teaches and mentors.
She is frequently invited to speak and appear on podcasts about writing craft, self-editing, editorial workflows, time and project management, and building a business that supports real life, not burnout.
In 2026, she released two comprehensive self-editing guides—Self-Editing Essentials for Nonfiction and Self-Editing Essentials for Fiction—designed to help authors revise with confidence before hiring a professional editor.
Katie lives in Wellsville, Utah, with her husband and three children, where she balances running her editing agency, presenting at conferences, and teaching authors and editors through courses, resources, and one-on-one coaching.

Self-Editing Essentials for Fiction: Polishing your Plot, Characters, Scenes, and Prose by Katie Chambers is the quintessential, go-to resource for fiction writers. Ms. Chambers is a brilliant editor with credentials. Her book is a step-by-step guide to equip authors to methodically and intentionally critique and self-edit their first-draft literary creations. Ms. Chambers curates her vast repository of information via internal “passes”: story, scene, writing, and technical. It is not intended to be read from cover-to-cover, but instead, used as a toolbox containing every tool imaginable an author who is self-editing might require in any given moment. Besides being technically indispensable, users will quickly discover that Ms. Chambers is not singularly an editing technocrat, but also a teacher. And more specifically, a personal trainer who is all about investing her talents in authors and their works to make them shine. She is personal. She is humorous. She is continually the encourager. She wants to pace you, practice you, equip you, organize you and inspire you to grow as a writer. If you work through this book on your first-ever or next draft, I guarantee it will save you time and money bringing in professional editors too soon, improve your book, and grow you as a writer. I highly recommend.
Katie Chambers’s Self-Editing Essentials for Nonfiction is a book I will definitely be sharing with my nonfiction editing clients. The humor, clarity, and thoroughness alone make it a keeper—one I’ll be adding to my own reference shelf. The personalized workbook feature raises this resource to a must-have level!
